Anderson anglers set to reel in charity donations once again

Thirty anglers from Anderson are set to take on a 48-hour fishing adventure to raise money for charity.

The team will be joined by friends and family for the event at Crowsheath fisheries, Billericay, in August. The goal is to reel in donations for The Lighthouse Club, a charity supporting the mental health of construction workers.

Last year the team raised more than £6,000 for the charity, and they hope to top that this year.

They have set up a fundraising page so people can sponsor them, and you can donate by clicking here.

The keen anglers, will fish from 7pm on Friday, August 19, to noon on Sunday, August 21, followed by a raffle draw and trophies. On Saturday evening, they will have a barbeque and light refreshments.

The fishathon is being organised by project manager Steve Townley and Senior Site Manager Ron “Rocket” Sant.

Investment in mental health training

Ron said: “Anderson takes its people’s mental health and wellbeing very seriously.

“It has invested a lot of money in training people in mental health first aid and establishing resources to support those people who struggle.

“As well as raising money for the fantastic Lighthouse Club, the fishathon is a way to bring people together and encourage conversation. It’s a chance for people to relax and open up, and build on the friendships they have with their colleagues.

“Angling is a relaxing hobby, it helps you unwind and is really beneficial for your mental health.”

Tents will be set up at the fishery for the 48-hour event. Participants come from all different departments of the business with several from head office, a number of site staff and some contractors signing up.

Money will be raised through the entrance fee as well as a raffle. Prizes have been donated by Korda, Nash, Outlaw Pro and Crowsheath Fisheries and more.

Bill Hill, CEO of the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity, said: “We’re delighted to hear that Anderson will once again be supporting us with the fundraising fishathon! What a great way to get together, have a relaxing chat and hopefully catch the ‘big one!”
